Information and Operational Technology
  2022 was a significant year with a number of milestones and key Information and Operational Technology (IOT) achievements featuring a new strategy of four main pillars; improving business performance and cost optimization, building national capabilities, enhancing cyber security and corporate governance, and turning live data coming from the digitalized Bahrain field into information.
Improving Business Performance and Cost Optimization
Over the outlook period, major systems were instituted to streamline business efficiency. These included the application of a new Human Recourse Management System (HRMS) from Oracle, in addition to upgrading an improved Business Processes (BPM) engine and introducing more than twenty (20) new workflow process to adapt better ways of working, as well as upgrading an improved maintenance management system Maximo and introducing HSE module to cater for HSE Department requirements. IOT also commenced implementation of an integrated production data management platform in addition to introducing the gas billing system which will be fully commissioning by 2023.
On the cost automatization side, IOT reviewed all its major contracts and managed to reduce its OPEX by 20%. More importantly, IOT increased the Bahrainization rate to reach 92% within the IOT department through successful succession planning and building the national capabilities.
The end users support remarkably improved through 2022, which was delivered through transparent KPI to the Company to provide quick incident response on performance and applications issues within the environment.
Turning Live Data coming from the Digitalized Field into Information
The executed data driven and automation enabled Operational Technology (OT) to improve the capturing,
storing, securing, analyzing and reacting to data, and deliver actionable information insights in a real-time environment. Live data from the digitalized field is integrated with different operational, production, and management KPIs, dashboards and reports in order to provide real-time information and insights. By doing so, IOT has been able to utilize the workforce’s knowledge more effectively in addressing and solving more difficult tasks.
IOT managed to facilitate automation expansions through the implementation of fit-for-purpose and cost-effective integrated control systems, sensors, data management and other related OT components. System analysis and automated downtime tracking provided timely recovery of critical systems and ensured business continuity.
OT asset management has been remarkably improved to ensure safety and provide visibility to OT systems by establishing connectivity with critical facilities assets, achieving centralized control and monitoring. Other initiatives included automation systems life cycle management program imitated for SCADA and well management system enhancement, control system upgrades with the use of latest secure technologies to reduce security risk on systems, increase system availability and improved safety.
